Strengthening Preparedness Through Drills, Responding to Earthquakes with Strategy——Emergency Earthquake Evacuation Drill Organized by Myanmar Thaketa O&M Project Team
2025-04-09
To further enhance employees’ awareness of earthquake prevention and disaster mitigation, as well as their self-rescue and mutual aid skills, Myanmar Thaketa O&M Project organized an emergency earthquake evacuation drill on April 8, with full participation from all project personnel.
The drill simulated a real-life scenario of the 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Mandalay, Myanmar, at 13:00 on March 28. At exactly 13:00, while project staff were resting in their dormitories, the "earthquake alarm" sounded, marking the official start of the drill. Participants responded quickly—grabbing pillows to protect the back of their heads and taking cover in the corners of the bathroom. One minute later, the project’s loudspeaker issued an “emergency evacuation” order. Participants promptly exited their rooms and evacuated along the designated route to the basketball court. There, they assembled by department, conducted a headcount, and reported to the project manager, successfully completing the evacuation task.
This drill closely simulated the emergency response and rescue operations following the March 28 earthquake in Myanmar. All participants worked in coordination and demonstrated strong teamwork, effectively testing the scientific soundness and feasibility of the project's earthquake emergency response plan. The drill achieved its intended outcomes. Moving forward, the project team will carry out targeted improvements to address the weaknesses identified during the drill, continuously optimize and refine the emergency response plan, and do the utmost to ensure the safety of personnel and property—providing strong support for the safe and stable operation of the project units.
