Myanmar Thaketa O&M Project organized an emergency drill for high-temperature sampling rack pipe burst scalding accident

In order to further enhance the safety management level of the chemical laboratory of the project, improve the rapid response ability, emergency handling ability and coordination and cooperation ability of high-temperature scalding accident, on the morning of February 25, Myanmar Thaketa O&M Project organized an emergency drill for high-temperature sampling rack pipe burst scalding accident.

The drill was conducted in accordance with the policy of "safety first, prevention first and comprehensive management", adhering to the principle of "combining with reality, reasonable positioning and flexible handling", and focusing on the whole process of incident reporting and analysis, rescue treatment, post-disposal and how to start the emergency plan normally. The exercise simulated that two chemical laboratory staff sampled furnace water, steam normally, found that the high-pressure steam drum water samples are small, suspected of blockage. They immediately entered the high-temperature sampling room for inspection, adjustment. During they’re adjusting the value, the joints of sample pipe suddenly opened, the back of a laboratory staff hand was burned, a large amount of steam was then sprayed with pressure, sampling room was gradually covered with steam, the room temperature is high, there was a risk of asphyxiation from heat stroke.

After the scalding accident, the site personnel promptly removed the burned personnel from the danger area, while reporting the site situation to the department head and project leaders. Subsequently, the emergency rescue plan was started under the guidance of the general director, and the emergency teams responded quickly and cooperated closely. The rescue team carried out cooling treatment and protection of the affected area according to the patient’s scalding situation, and the treatment team handled the accident site, isolated the leak point and investigated the accident.

After the drill, the project leaders analyzed and summarized the detailed problems that appeared during the drill, further sorted out the emergency disposal process and clarified the responsibilities of relevant personnel.

The drill verified the reasonableness and effectiveness of the process of starting the emergency plan, made all the personnel of the project more familiar with the whole process of starting the emergency plan in an emergency, and further improved the rapid rescue ability and emergency handling ability of the project personnel in scalding accidents. In the next step, the project will make every effort to grasp the safety production work, enhance the awareness of safety responsibility of all staff, strictly implement the safety management requirements, and provide strong protection for the orderly promotion of annual operation and maintenance work.
