Myanmar Thaketa O&M Project Organised a Turbine Oil System Fire Emergency Drill

2024-04-10

To further enhance safety production management, in conjunction with the 2024 Spring Safety Inspection Plan, on April 10th, Myanmar Thaketa O&M Project organized an emergency drill for turbine oil system fires.

The drill adhered to the principle of combining defense with rescue, simulating the entire process of handling a shutdown due to leakage from the turbine oil engine regulation oil return flange on-site. During the tightening of bolts, the leakage increased, splashing onto the hot source pipeline in operation, causing spontaneous combustion. Following the incident, operational and maintenance personnel quickly used on-site dry powder fire extinguishers to control the flames, while the supervisor ordered the turbine to be shut down. During the drill, one participant involved in firefighting collapsed due to excessive smoke inhalation, prompting immediate first aid using cardiopulmonary resuscitation by other personnel on-site. Through the collaborative efforts of all participants, personnel were successfully rescued and the fire extinguished. Subsequently, maintenance personnel found damaged gaskets upon dismantling the regulation oil return flange, and promptly replaced them. After safety measures were restored by operational personnel and confirmed no oil leakage, a request was immediately made to dispatch for turbine restart.

In this emergency drill, each department responded promptly, and coordinated rescue efforts were in place, achieving the expected results of the drill. Next, the project will continue to conduct in-depth safety hazard investigations and control measures, intensify on-site safety management efforts, enhance the level of project site safety management, and effectively ensure the safe and stable operation of the units during the summer high temperatures.
